Fellow in Political Science and Public Policy at The London School of Economics and Political Science

Hi! Thanks for visiting my website!

On myself

I am Omar Hammoud-Gallego, a political and social data scientist, currently a Fellow in Political Science and Public Policy at the LSE School of Public Policy. My research focuses on migration and refugee policies, as well as on the challenges to democratic legitimacy worldwide. I hold a PhD from the Department of Government at the LSE.

From the 2024/25 academic year, I will be Assistant Professor in Public Policy at the School of Government and International Affairs at Durham University. I am also an affiliated fellow at the IDRC Chair on Migration and Displacement at the Universidad del Pacífico, Peru. In May 2024, I will be a visiting fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research.

Currently, I co-lead a team of researchers for the Civic Data Innovation Challenge, funded by the Greater London Authority and the LSE, in a joint initiative with the Migrant Democracy Project. Recently, as part of my continuous engagement with civil society and international organisations, I have co-authored a report on corruption in Ghana for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), co-authored a report on the representativeness of local politicians in London, and another report on civic and democratic engagement in London, as part of the NGO The3Million. I have also contributed to the ‘Global Democracy Insight for Cabinet Office’ project, based at the University of Cambridge.

Before joining the LSE, I worked as a consultant at the United Nations’ International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Italy and I have also worked for the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Colombia, among others.

My research has been published in the American Political Science Review and International Migration Review, among others.
